State Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have been accused of suffocating founding fathers of the party.
A chieftain of the party in Imo State, Hon Obed Anyadike, told INNONEWS in Owerri, that it is regrettable that APC state governors are relegating founding fathers of the party to the background on issues affecting the party.
He said this is the major reason why the APC is in limbo and has been riddled with crisis lately.
“The founding fathers of the APC, those who initiated and ensured the merger of the various political parties, that gave birth to the APC, have been shoved aside by the governors who now solely dictate the pace in the party.
“The APC is being denied the fountain of wisdom of the original owners of the party who understand the vision and purpose the party was founded” he said
Anyadike said founding fathers of the party are no longer consulted on key issues affecting the advancement and progress of the party.
“It is wrong that key leaders of the party are kept in the dark over issues affecting the party.
“President Buhari should reduce the overwhelming influence of the governors in the party, by also bringing founding members of the party to the table, to dialogue and brainstorm on the way forward for our party” he said.
He recalled that four Nigerians are responsible for the birth of the APC in the country, namely President Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu and Rochas Okorocha, who collapsed the CPC, ACN, the ANPP, a faction of APGA respectively to form the APC, in addition to some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who joined the merger at that time.
“Aside President Buhari, other founding fathers have been kept in abeyance. Some of the State Governors who are now taking decisions affecting the party were no where to be found in the political space of the country when the APC was formed” he stated.
