2023:Will Araraume Run For Guber In Imo PDP?

Following the defection of Godwin Araraume jnr, son of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, there are feelers that Godwin’s father, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, may equally join the opposition party.

Araraume have had it so rough in the APC, losing the Okigwe Senatorial seat to the combined forces of Senator Hope Uzodimma and Minister of State, Education, Emeka Nwajiuba.

The duo had backed less fancied Frank Ibezim, who emerged Senator for Okigwe zone.

Araraume after his loss of Okigwe Senate seat, was named Chairman, Board of Directors, NNPC by President Muhammadu Buhari, but like a flash in the pan, he was dropped and completely removed from the Board by the Presidency.

Despite his strong alliance with notable APC leaders such as Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Araraume’s stay in the APC has been laced with political landmines, which has blown up or torpedo his political forays and journey.

Since he lost the NNPC top job, he has remained calm, ostensibly licking his wounds.

The defection of his son, Godwin to the PDP, has been described as an indication that Senator Araraume could be testing the waters, before he eventually cross over to the PDP.

With 2023 fast approaching, those close to the Senator say he is not a political character that can afford to stay idle in any political dispensation.

Araraume is known to be a serial governorship aspirant in Imo State, having vied for the plum job more than five times on different political platforms.

Close observers of Araraume’s political trajectory say, the defection of his son, Godwin to the PDP, certainly has his blessings.

Godwin Araraume jnr, a former Commissioner in Rochas Okorocha’s Administration, is a very visible figure in his father’s aspiration both for the governorship position and his recent attempt to go to the Senate.

It is unclear what Senator Araraume’s next move will be, but there are indications that he may eying the governorship ticket of the PDP in Imo State, if he eventually cross over to the opposition party.

With his irreconcilable differences with Governor Hope Uzodimma reaching a crescendo, Araraume and allies of Okorocha may find solace in the opposition party.
