After the successful conclusion of it’s National Convention, there are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari and the top eggheads of the All Progressives Congress, APC, may opt for a presidential candidate from the South East zone.
Credible information available to INNONEWS indicate that the party may go for the same consensus approach, to elect it’s presidential candidate, as was the case to elect the National Chairman and members of the National Working Commitee, NWC of the party, at the party’s National Convention held last week.
A source in the know of undercurrents shaping the choice of a presidential candidate of the party, told this newspaper that a serving Minister in Buhari’s cabinet from the South East is on the radar for consideration and looks good to be favoured for the party’s presidential ticket.
Details of this development are sketchy, but there are feelers that top level party chieftains from the North, including some governors and some key officials in the presidency are part of the plot.
The top source told this newspaper “The South East is now in contention for the party’s presidential ticket.
“I can tell you that for free. And he is one very close to the President and who has been part of this party from inception.
“Remember, the President said his choice of the presidential candidate of the APC will shock Nigerians. And we will be in for a big shock when the President unveils his choice for the presidential ticket of the party” the source said.
The race for the presidential ticket of the APC is however expected to be intense, with aspirants already declaring intention for the ticket.
Among the presidential aspirants are Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha among others.
