The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Imo State chapter, has commended the Imo State House of Assembly for passing a bill to domesticate compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshots.
NAWOJ, in a statement signed by its Chaiperson and Secretary, Dr Dorathy Nnaji and Chika Ewurum, respectively, stated that association resolved to align with the State Assembly on the bill, because it places premium on the sanctity of life.
NAWOJ, an association of practicing female journalists, said it will have a positive impact on the citizenry in the state, appealing to Governor Hope Uzodimma to assent it into law.
The bill was sponsored by Hon Philip Ejiogu (PDP, Owerri North).
It among other things, will compel public and private hospitals to render treatment to gunshot victims without monetary deposit and those who aid gunshot victims will be accorded respect and shall not be subjected to unnecessary and embarrassing interrogation.
