The Imo State Police Command, Owerri, says it repelled an attack on Omuma Police Station, in Oru East LGA of Imo State in early hours of Sunday.

The Command, in a statement by the State Commissioner Of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini and made available to newsmen in Owerri by the Command spokesman, Micheal Abattam, said four hoodlums involved in the attack were killed.

It said the hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafram IPOB and Eastern Security Network, ESN, came in large numbers, with various calibres of Improvised Explosive Devices, (IEDs), to Omuma Police Station on the 20th March, 2022, at about 0300hours.

According to the Command “The Police Operatives engaged them in a fierce gun duel and in the process, four of the bandits were neutralized on the spot, while others scampered into the bush having suffered a huge defeat, with a number of them sustaining various degrees of bullet wounds. There was no casualty on the side of the joint security operatives.

“On the spot, five undetonated different capacities of Improvised Explosives Devices were recovered from the neutralized bandits and charms. The Police Bomb Unit have taken custody of the bombs for detonation.”

It appealed to Imolities for their support and collaboration by availing to security agencies, especially the Police, useful information, it also advised that the public to report any person seen treating bullet wounds or hiding within their communities, to the nearest police station for prompt action.

The CP said the Command’s Tactical Teams are conducting a vigorous and aggressive combing of the bush to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and to recover their arms/ammunition since they cannot go far because of the huge damage done to them.
