As primaries for various elective positions draws near in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State, there are indications that the party may have listed some factors which may influence the selection or election of candidates for the party.
Aside credentials of the aspirants, key factors such as loyalty to Governor Hope Uzodimma and to the party, will count as major factors in the selection of candidates.
A top level source in Imo APC told INNONEWS that though the party in the state, awaits the directives of the national leadership of the party to announce the mode of primaries- Direct, Indirect or Consensus- there are feelers that those who will smile on the day of the primaries are aspirants who must have met the above criteria.
“Those who are accessible and who are loyal to the Governor and to the party, and those who understand the body language of the Governor, are those who may be nominated as party candidates” the source told INNONEWS.
According to the source, the re- election plans of Governor Hope Uzodimma begins with the nomination of candidates of the party who are loyal to him and to the party. This is the normal norm in party politics and it is nothing unusual.
“The APC will shop for winnable candidates, candidates with winning mentality and those who can lead the party to victory” the source said.
However, Governor Uzodimma had last week said APC in Imo State would hold “transparent primaries in the state, devoid of interference and undue influence”
The Governor made the clarification at the Nkwerre Country club at an event organized by leaders from Orlu zone under the auspices of Orlu Development Forum.
