Team Imo on Friday in Abuja took the 6th position in the first edition of the National Para Games after hauling a total of 59 medals.

Team Imo of about 120 athletes won 16 gold, 25 silver and 18 bronze medals to end up at an overall 6th position in the Games held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium being the Maiden Para National Sports Festival Games 2022.

The just concluded Para National Sports Festival is the first of its kind and has over 3145 athletes and officials participating and 21 participating states across the federation, which Imo was part of and led by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Ogu who expressed gratitude to the Governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma for the unflinching support to Imo Contingents in the whole preparation and onward participation in the sports festival.

The competition was declared open by the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare on Saturday, April 9 and ended on Friday, April 15, 2022.

The maiden edition of this Para-Sports Games is aimed at giving People Living With Disability (PLWD) in sports a sense of belonging and opportunity to exhibit all their potential which is in line with the present administration’s policy of inclusion in ensuring that Para-Sports are given the same opportunity as their able-bodied counterparts.
