2023: Three Imo Senators Will Not Return To The Senate

The three Senators currently representing Imo State in the Senate will not be part of the Red Chambers when the 10th National Assembly will be inaugurated in June 2023.

The three Senators- Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi (PDP, Imo East), Senator Frank Ibezim (APC,Imo North) and Senator Rochas Okorocha (APC, Imo West), will not be returning to the Senate next year.

Onyewuchi and Ibezim did not scale through the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Congress, APC.

Senator Onyewuchi, who is seeking a second term as Senator after spending eight years in the House of Representatives, lost the PDP Imo East primary election to Uche Onyeagocha, a former member of the House of Representatives.

The APC in Imo East elected Alex Mbata as its senatorial candidate.

In Imo North, Senator Frank Ibezim lost the APC Imo North Primary election to Patrick Ndubueze, while Osita Izunaso, a former National Organizing Secretary of the APC, won the APC Imo West Senate primary.

Senator Rochas Okorocha, who is jostling for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presently represents Imo West Senatorial zone in the Senate.
