As the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, to elect a presidential candidate holds on Tuesday, five aspirants from the South have been shortlisted for the party’s presidential ticket.
This development came after the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu had announced Senate President Ahmed Lawan, as consensus candidate.
This was roundly opposed by Northern APC Governors who met President Buhari last night.
President Buhari had on Monday night denied the position of the party’s National Chairman, saying he had no ‘anointed’ candidate.
Governors of the party held meetings along regional lines and also met with the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu and members of the NWC, where the decisions were taken.
It was learnt that those shortlisted include Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
Sources said some aspirants are expected to withdraw from the contest pending the outcome of negotiations.
