Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, a former Minister of Science and Technology, has questioned the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC, over the injustice meted to the South East by denying the region the presidential ticket of the party.
Speaking at Eagles Square, Abuja, venue of the APC Presidential Primary, Onu, one of the presidential aspirants in the contest, recalled that in 1999, he sacrificed his presidential ambition in order to make way for two candidates from the South West to run.
“We had two Olu’s to contest for President, so that head or tail, one of them would become President and that brought down tension in the country” Onu said
“What is very, very important, exceptionally important, is that we must ensure that justice is upheld,” .
“Naturally, it should be somebody from the South East that will replace (Buhari), and that will give the opposite South versus North and Christian versus Muslim a balance, and it will bring stability to the nation; it will strengthen Nigeria
“The South West had eight years as President, eight years as Vice President, the South- South had eight years as President and Vice President. Where is the justice, where is the justice, we need to do what is right. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria” Onu said in his address.
