‘Oru Owerre Festival, A Constant Reminder That Owerri People Are One’- Lugard Osuji

A former Majority Leader of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Lugard Osuji, has said the Oru Owerre festival, an annual cultural festival of Owerri people, is a constant reminder that Owerri people are of one ancestral origin.

Osuji, who is the flag-bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for Owerri Municipal State Constituency, in a statement in Owerri, congratulated the good people of Owerri, on this year’s New Year festival, a prelude to the ancient Oru Owerre festival.

The statement reads:

The Imo House of Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Owerri Municipal State Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, Lugard Osuji, KSC, has delightfully joined his people of Owerri municipal in the celebration of the 2022 Oru Owere yam festival and sent his warm felicitation to the royal fathers, Nde Eze Owere, and the entire people of Owere Nchi Ise including Nde Oha Owere, Nde mgboto Owere, Nde youth Owere nchi-ise, Nde ebiri Owere, and importantly also, the Owere Wu Eze, his age grade. 

The Akajiudo Owere described the festival celebrated in July every year which commences with roasting and eating of special yams, as a revered annual event that has placed Owerri Municipal on the global spotlight as the central hub of cultural activities or the melting point of culture and tradition in Imo State. 

He maintained that the well-cherished age-long rich heritage and culture remains significant not only because of the celebration of life, love and oneness it promotes amongst the people of Owere nchi ise community, but also for its constant reminder to them that they are of one ancestral origin. 

While wishing his people a happy and eventful celebration, he urged them to seize the opportunity to renew their brotherhood, respect and love for one another as well as tolerance and friendship with the nonindigenes residing or doing business in Owerri Municipal. It is by so doing that peace, unity and progress can continue to permeate and prevail in the state constituency.
