High Chief Kingsley Onukaogu (Duke of Obowo) and President General Imo Union South-Africa has tendered his resignation as the President General of the union, following what he described as “plans To lure Him Into Financial Misconduct” by a cabal in the union.
Onukaogu said he resigned his position after consulting relevant people within the union and his immediate family on his decision to quit and save his”Reputation”.
The philanthropist disclosed this in a media chat with journalist in Owerri, where he announced his decision to quit, having suspected fraudulent activities within the union.
“I’m a very respected Chief in my community and I vowed not to involve myself in any financial misconduct in the union.
“Some members of the union are trying to lure me into involving in dubious or financial misconduct, but I have considered my reputation as a Christian and a Title Holder and decided to quit just to save my reputation”, he said.
Recall that Onukaogu was elected President General Imo Union South-Africa in August 25, 2020 with his tenure expected to end in August 25, 2023.
Within two years of his leadership, Onukaogu led the union to greater height with unbearable legacies, which include fighting the marginalization of Imo citizens in South-Africa and brought them in one formidable umbrella, defended the rights of Imo citizens in South-Africa and projected a platform that protected them from external attack by South-Africans.
He also organized Ozuruimo Convention to unite all the Indigenous People of Imo State from all the Province of South-Africa scheduled to hold on 15-16 October 2022.
According to him, he would also continue to support the union in his capacity despite his resignation. He thanked members of the union and all Imo citizens in South-Africa for the trust and support they gave him within the period.
