Imo Grasshoppers To Represent Nigeria At Africa Club Championship

Imo Grasshoppers International Handball Club Of Owerri, Imo State will represent Nigeria at the 43rd Africa Clubs Championship,  which will take place in Tunisia from 30th September to 9th October, 2022.


The Grasshoppers were eligible to participate in the tournament after winning bronze medal at the Prudent Energy Handball League in Abuja last year.


In a letter dated 5th August from the Handball Federation Of Nigeria (HFN) and signed by the Secretary General of the Federation, Mr. Almu Umar Lambu, the Imo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Dan Chike Ogu was notified of the nomination of Imo Grasshoppers International Handball Club to the 43rd Africa Clubs Championship.


Reacting to the development, the Sports Commissioner, Hon. Dan Ogu described the nomination as a testament of the efforts and hard work of the team and their determination to make the State proud by winning a bronze medal.


Hon. Ogu appreciated the administration of Gov. Hope Uzodimma for reviving the Imo Grasshoppers Handball Club,  which was in a state of comatose and the evidence of the 3R mantra in the sports sector which has led to optimum performance of the team.

“I thank God and I am happy we made it this far in less than a year of getting the club back to its original state. 

“We are grateful to the players, coaches, the Federation both at the state and national level. So far, we are doing well and I am optimistic that this invite will propel us to achieve more success and I thank Governor Hope Uzodimma for his generous contributions towards sports development in Imo State.” the Commissioner stated. 

He reiterated that to make the State and our nation more proud, all hands would  be on deck to ensure an exceptional and superlative outing by the team in Tunisia.
