Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, has vowed that his administration will continue to rid the state of criminals and bandits.
Speaking at the commissioning of 10 Armoured Personnel Carriers, APC, in Owerri, the governor thanked the Nigeria Police for their courage and professionalism in tackling crime and banditry in the state.
He said though security is in the exclusive list of the Federal Government, “the reality is that all tiers of government must synergize to ensure the protection of property and lives of the citizenry”
“Since the inception of my administration, I have always worked with the federal government and the security agencies to ensure that Imo State is safe for our people, residents and visitors.
He said the provision of the APCs “ is not a coincidence but a deliberate and sustainable effort aimed at enhancing the capacity of the police to execute their constitutional law enforcement mandate”
The Governor noted that there can be no development without peace, reiterating that “government under my watch, will do all we can to protect lives and property of all citizens and residents of Imo State”
In his speech, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, enumerated the strong determination of Governor Hope Uzodimma to support the Nigerian Police Force, despite financial constraints of the state government.
He however thanked Governor Uzodimma for the high critical operational equipment such as the APCs donated to the Police in State, which he described as part of his proactive steps to tackle insecurity in the State.
