Groups Urge Them To Declare Interest for Guber soonest
16 months to the governorship election in Imo State, tension has enveloped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State over the governorship ambition of former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha and PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The duo had vied for the 2019 Imo PDP governorship primary which Ihedioha triumphed.
The rivalry is set to be revived again ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Imo State.
Already supporters of the duo have commenced early preparations and even resorted to desperate moves.
Last week, a local tabloid claimed that some top supporters of Senator Anyanwu had stormed the State party Secretariat, located along Owerri- Okigwe road, and invaded the office of the State Chairman, Engr Charles Egwu.
According to the report, the pro Anyanwu foot soldiers led by Myke Ikoku accused the State Chairman of openly showing support for Ihedioha when he should play the role of an umpire.
Ihedioha last week received a delegation from the party from Owerri zone at his country home in Mbutu, Aboh Mbaise, where he was called on to rejoin the Imo governorship race in 2023.
Led by Bon Unachukwu, the party leaders said Ihedioha has an unfinished business at Government House, Owerri.
Another pro Anyanwu group, Samdaddy Imo Mass Movement (SIMM) called on Senator Anyanwu to join the Imo governorship race.
According to the co ordinator of the group, Chief Francis Ibeh, he said Anyanwu’s refusal to accept their appeal to contest, would compel the group to mobilize over 1 million Imo citizens across the State to persuade Anyanwu to aspire for Imo governorship.
