*Volunteer Group Tour LGAs To Drum Support For Ex Governor

*Anyanwu Inaugurates Campaign Council

The race for the 2023 Imo governorship race has already kick started in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with former Governor of Imo State, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, kicking off the race to grab the party’s governorship ticket.

Indications emerged last week that Ihedioha and Anyanwu, two perceived political foes, who had vied for the ticket of the party in 2019 which the latter lost, have reignited fresh moves to signal their preparedness to run for Imo governorship in 2019.

Ihedioha, who was removed as Governor of Imo State by the Supreme Court in January 2020 has already started subtle consultations, with some groups already touring the local governments and wards in the state, to drum support for his second missionary journey to Government House, Owerri.

A Volunteer Political Group, by name Ihedioha Re- Election Movement, had last week began a tour of the nine local governments in Owerri zone, to talk to the people of the zone on the need for Ihedioha to join the guber race.

Mainly made up of Ihedioha loyalists and followers, the group had kick started its tour on Wednesday last week at Ezinihitte Mbaise and Ahiaze Mbaise LGAs, respectively, where it visited some political leaders in the area and also inaugurated its foot-soldiers at the Booths, Wards, and LGA.

One of Ihedioha’s allies, Bon Unachukwu, claimed that the event was self funded, and was inspired by those who believe in the achievements of Ihedioha when he was governor for seven months.

On the other hand, former PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu has expectedly kicked off his guber campaign bid, inaugurating his campaign council at the weekend.

Senator Anyanwu inaugurated Directors, State LGAs and Ward Coordinators of his political structure, Divine Mandate Movement (DDM).

Anyanwu had also appointed Hon Ngozi Ogbu as his campaign structure Director General and Gozie Nwachukwu as Secretary.
