There are strong indications that five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may back the Labour Party, LP, Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election.
The five governors met on Sunday in Enugu and reports claim that discussions centered on how to deliver Obi.
The Governors are: Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Two South East Governors of PDP extraction, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Abia and Enugu States were also part of the meeting.
Abia and Enugu States are the two PDP controlled States in the South East.
The meeting came barely a week the PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar met stakeholders of the PDP in Enugu, where he assured that the South East would produce the nation’s president after his tenure.
Obi and Wike had also met in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State capital last week.
The five governors led by Governor Wike have been at cross roads with Atiku, which has feuled the crisis in the main opposition party.
The Wike/ Atiku face off had degenerated despite efforts by stakeholders of the party to quell it.
The Rivers State Governor and his allies insist that the party’s national Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu should resign, on the basis that the party’s presidential candidate and National Chairman, cannot come from the North.
