We Are Not Threatened- ASUU Kicks FG’s Registration Of Two Unions

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday, said it is not moved or perturbed by the registration of two new trade unions by the Federal Government.

The two new unions are the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics, NAMDA, and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics, CONUA.

Chris Ngige,Minister of Labour and Employment said the two unions will function alongside ASUU.

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, in his reaction, said the Federal Government’s action is inconsequential. He noted that his union cannot be threatened with the development.

“That does not in any way affect us. We are a disciplined and focused union and we know what we are doing and what we are after. Let them register as many unions as they like. The sky is big enough for birds to fly”.

He further stated that ASUU members are not saboteurs or bootlickers, adding that its members know their vision and mission.
