Campaigns are on a low ebb, a sloppy and slow start in Imo State, as elective office seekers and political parties seem to be foot dragging.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had on September 28, 2022, lifted the ban on campaigns.
But with three weeks gone, the campaigns are yet to kick off in full swing. Candidates of various political parties are yet to embark on full scale campaigns.
Their media aides and consultants have rather invested so much energy in name calling and hurling of insults on each other, relegating to the background, issues based discourses and campaigns.
The social media has rather become the epicenter of political debates and feeble campaigns by candidates, with little emphasis on awareness or sensitization on voter education.
Three major political parties are in the frontline of the intricate political landscape of Imo State- with the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party, fielding candidates for the senate, House of Representatives and the State Assembly.
With four months to the general elections, political analysts strongly canvass for robust campaigns and call on candidates and political parties in the State, to de emphasize name calling and engage in friuthful debates to enable voters make informed choices at the polls.
