The Imo State governorship election will take place on November 11, 2023.
Similar elections will take place in Bayelsa and Kogi States.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirmed the dates of the elections in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, it’s national commissioner and Chairman Information Voter Committee.
According to Okoye, governorship primary elections by parties will take place between March 27 to April 17, 2023.
Okoye stated that the decision is in fulfilment of the requirement of Section 28 (1) of the Electoral Act 2022, mandating INEC to publish the Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the elections.
According to the commission, the tenure of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State ends on 14th January 2024 while those of Kogi and Bayelsa states end on 26th January 2024 and 13 February 2024 respectively.
