Prominent leaders of Owerri Municipal rose from a well attended meeting on Monday, October 24,this year with a resolve to commend Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State for securing presidential approval for the construction of a 10 Megawatt Hyro Power Generating Plant in Owerri
The extra ordinary stakeholders parley was convened at the Owerri Municipal Council headquarters by Hon Christian Nze, the sole Administrator of Owerri Municipal Council.
A six point Communique emerged at the meeting, which was endorsed by Eze Possible Uche, Chairman, Council of Ndi Eze Owere autonomous communities, Nwakom Reginald Ejiogu, Onyeisi Ala Owere(Chief Priest of Owere)and another accomplished son of the community and Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC,Imo State Chapter, Hon MacDonald Ebere.
Presenting the Communique,an illustrious son of the community, Hon Sunny Onyeukwu, Special Adviser to the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu,
described the project as “a new dawn for the good of not only Owerri Municipality but indeed for the benefit of the entire citizenry of our dear State”
They also applauded the historic and landmark resolve of the Imo State government under the able leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma to commence the construction of the Power generating Plant at the two traditional rivers of Owerri- Nworie and Otammiri.
They also noted that “the project will not only foster Federal presence in Imo State, but also link Owerri Municipality to the national grid”
While restating their support to the lofty and visionary achievements of Governor Hope Uzodimma, they also noted that the project is “a radical and bold effort to enhance the social and economic development potentials of Owerri Municipality in a way it has never been done before by any administration in Imo State”
Highlighting the gains of the project, the leaders noted “that when completed, the facility would not only guarantee regular and uninterrupted electricity power supply in Owerri Municipality and it’s environs, it will further drive and stimulate industrialization.
“Indeed, needles to say that the project would transform Owerri Municipality to a 24 hour economy with the strong and viable multiplier prospects for wealth and job creation, security and the pursuit of individual happiness necessary for peace to thrive and sustainable development to endure.
“We associate ourselves with this milestone and urge that no effort is spared in ensuring that it is fully utilized” part of the communique read.
They also thanked the Federal Government “under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for approving that the project is sighted in Owerri Municipality.
“By this action, he has complemented our dear Governor’s love for Nde Owerri and we pledge to continue to remain supportive of his Administration. We are confident that history will reward sense of mission” part of the communique further stated.
They called on the people of Imo State to continue to lend their support to Governor Hope Uzodimma, and appreciated the Governor “for appointing our illustrious son, Hon Christian Nze, as Sole Administrator of Owerri Municipal.
They described the SOLAD as “a proven consensus builder and silent achiever worthy of such a high office”
The meeting was attended by prominent sons and daughters of the various communities in Owerri Municipal.
