INEC Gives Reasons Why Imo, Four South East States Are Yet To Receive BVAS

The South East States of Imo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, are without Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), and authenticate voters in any of the South East region.

Speaking on the development, at an interface with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Fact Finding Mission For elections in Nigeria held in Enugu, INEC Administration Secretary, Mr.Chidi Nwafor, said INEC had received non sensitive items, except BVAS.

He said the activities of unknown gunmen in the region, which attacked and burnt some of the Commission’s offices in Enugu and other parts of the South East, is the reason, why BVAS have not been deployed to INEC offices in the South East.

He disclosed that the Commission still lack vehicles, stating that since the attack at the headquarters of the Commission in Enugu, they have not been replaced.
