A world renowned Engineer, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has called for a critical study to find solutions to the climatic changes that is ravaging the universe.


Chief Iwuanyanwu made the call at a dinner party he organised for the National President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr Tasiu Sa’ad Gidari-Wudil and his executive in his Owerri residence.


He said that the devastating effect of the climatic changes was terribly affecting humanity and its environment.

The elder statesman said that the situation demands urgent attention from all professionals especially engineers.

Chief Iwuanyanwu also observed that the young engineers are not given the opportunity to showcase themselves after their University studies and wondered how they can practice what they were taught. He noted that roads and bridges were being constructed and built by governments and the young engineers were not being recruited or assigned any duty.

Chief Iwuanyanwu recalled that he reconstructed the Enugu Airport as a Pupil Engineer, adding that such was accomplished because of the opportunity given to him by his boss.


He also recalled that the asphaltic Concrete being used in the country was a result of experiment and research he carried out as a young engineer and advised that the young engineers of today should be given similar opportunities.


Iwuanyanwu maintained that when the civil war broke out in Nigeria, the Head of the Biafran Engineers, Professor Godian Ezekwe recruited some brilliant engineering Students from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, who manufactured rockets and bombs for the war.


He advised that Professional Engineers should be made Ministers and Commissioners of Works and in other engineering related offices, pointing out that engineers have played major roles in transforming the environment and its landscape. He wondered how the world would have been without engineers.


Chief Iwuanyanwu said that he is proud to be an Engineer and pointed out that the profession made him whatever he is today, adding that it was his feat as a young engineer that earned him his first National Honour of Member Federal Republic – MFR.

He commended former President Ibrahim Babangida and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for recognizing his engineering prowess and appointed first Chairman of the Raw Materials Research Council and Chairman of the FERMA.

He noted that as Chairman of the Governing Council , University of Calabar, he ensured that a Faculty of Engineering was established among other Courses.

He commended the National Leadership of the Nigeria Society of Engineers for embarking on a number studies to curb the menace of Environmental degradation.

In his speech, the National President of NSE, Engr Gidari-Wudil said that Chief Iwuanyanwu has played tremendous roles in the development of the Engineering profession in the country. He described Chief Iwuanyanwu as the father of Engineering Profession in Nigeria and pleaded with him to continue to sustain the tempo.
