The member representing Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Okoro Heclus, has absolved himself of voting against financial autonomy for the local governments, State Houses of Assembly and the Judiciary.

He however accused Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo East Senatorial candidate, Uche Onyeagocha, of falsely mentioning his name as one of the members of the House who voted against autonomy for the State Houses of Assembly, the local governments and the Judiciary.

Members of the Imo State House of Assembly had last week voted against autonomy for these arms of government, a development which attracted widespread condemnation from Imolites from far and near.

Onyeagocha had in statement listed the names of the state lawmakers who voted against the autonomy and strongly criticized their action.

Reacting to Onyeagocha’s statement, Okoro, in a press releases signed by his Personal Assistant on Media and Public Enlightenment, Destiny Isinwa, said, “Onyeagocha’s press statement released by his media aide, lacked research”

“The said press statement lacked research. The press statement was uncooked. It was released with a desperado style with political attempt to destroy some well doing lawmakers, because Ohaji/Egbema representative did not vote against the noble financial autonomy.

“The press statement hurriedly fixed names of innocent and victimized IMHA lawmakers that never voted against the financial autonomy, only to score political goal.

“While we remained surprised over the possibility of the supposed caliber of Uche Onyeagocha okaying the release of the false statement against Ohaji/Egbema representative in IMHA, we enjoin Uche Onyeagocha to henceforth research, investigate, scrutinize and filter every false alarm brought on his desk before okaying a press statement of such nature’ part of the lawmaker’s statement stated.

The lawmaker called on his constituents to “disregard the false alarm raised Uche Onyeagocha”

“Hon. Heclus Okoro is of Labour Party in the House, he supported the financial autonomy of Legislature, Judiciary and Local Government because it is a freedom that will totally enthrone real democratic governance. How can a reasonable man or woman vote against his own freedom” the statement concluded.
