Despite naira and feul scarcity across Imo State, candidates of various political parties, are neck deep in campaigns as the February 25 National Assembly and Presidential elections draw near.

Owerri, Imo State capital has not been left out in the naira and fuel scarcity across the country.

While petrol is available, the price has continued to sky rocket on a daily basis with a litre selling for N400 and N420 in most filling stations across the State.

At the black market, a litre of fuel is sold for N700 and above.

Owerri is also not left out in the crisis which has trailed the redesign of the naira notes.

Banks are besieged daily by customers who are in desperate search for new naira notes.

Amidst these scarcity, candidates of political parties have continued to go on with campaigns.

Though such campaigns have been noticeably slow, it is expected to pick up as candidates shop for funds to hit the hinterlands to convince voters for votes.

With the Supreme Court judgement ordering the CBN not to discontinue the use of old naira notes, it is expected the candidates of political parties will have access to funds to further their campaigns barely 16 days to the presidential and National Assembly elections

Last Monday, Governor Hope Uzodimma was said to have financially mobilized candidates, party campaign councils at all levels to kick start campaigns.

Candidates of other opposition political parties, such as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have also embarked on campaigns despite fears expressed by the party over the rising level of insecurity in the State.

Governor Hope Uzodimma has consistently blamed the opposition of sponsoring insecurity in Imo State.
