Imo Assembly Election, A Shameless Electoral Banditry And Brigandage- LP

The Labour Party in Imo State has called for the cancellation of the State Assembly election, which it described as a “shameless electoral banditry and brigandage”

In a statement in Owerri and signed by the Party’s State Caretaker Committee Chairman, F.B. Onyekwulisi, and made available to INNONEWS, he LP said “it is tantamount to an iconic comedy of errors, to regale Imo electorates, with the farce that the ruling APC which was roundly beaten by Nigeria’s new choice, our great party, at the Presidential polls on Saturday, 25th February, 2023, as attested by the foreign observers and CSOs, suddenly turned around to match “overwhelming” victory in the 27 local governments of the State”

The LP accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of collaborating with the APC, stating that the electoral umpire traded off “its independence under the watch of unpatriotic security agencies”

Part of the statement read “We hereby state unequivocally that the joke involving overt vote buying, intimidation of voters, rabid thuggery and homicides, ballot boxes snatching, diversion of electoral materials, denying LP agents access to LGA Collation Centers, illegal voting centres, compromised result sheets and re- writing of results in favour of the APC contravenes the 2022 Electoral Act

“Consequently, we hereby call for immediate cancellation of the March 18, 2023 House of Assembly elections in Imo State. As we distance ourselves from the skewed results outcome”

The party also called on the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, to “urgently remove the State REC, purge INEC from glut of sins and quickly prepare for a fresh, free, fair and credible election in order not to jeopardize the peace of the State and our hard earned democracy”
