Allies, loyalists and political foot- soldiers of former Governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Imo North, Rochas Okorocha, lost return bids to the National Assembly, particularly the House of Representatives in the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Okorocha did not seek a second term in office as Senator.

The All Progressives Congress, APC had fielded Senator Osita Izunaso as his replacement.

Izunaso won last Saturday’s Senatorial contest for Imo West amidst allegations of electoral fraud leveled against him by Charles Ahize, Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party.

Former Commissioner of Finance in Okorocha’s government,  Chike Okafor, who crossed over to the camp of Governor Hope Uzodimma during the peak of the feud between Okorocha and Uzodimma, also lost a return bid to represent Okigwe South Federal Constituency.

Okafor was defeated by PDP candidate and former Deputy Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Jonas Okeke.

In Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta Federal Constituency, Hon Kingsley Uju, another Okorocha’s loyalist, who served the former Governor as Deputy Chief Of Staff, also lost his re- election to the House of Representatives, to Eugene Dibiagwu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In Ideato North/South Federal Constituency,  Ikenga Ugochinyere, spokesman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CUPP, and PDP candidate defeated Paschal Obi of the Labour Party.

Obi is long time ally of the former Governor having served as his Principal Secretary.

The fate of Hon Ugonna Ozuruigbo, a die hard Okorocha loyalist, who is seeking a return to the House of Representatives, is uncertain.

The outcome of the polls remains inconclusive, as he is in tight race with Harrison Nwadike of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
