Some powerful political forces are alleged to have infiltrated the Labour Party in Imo State, with a former governor and another top All Progressives Congress, APC, bigwig, separately scheming to produce the party’s governorship candidate.
INNONEWS was told by a reliable source that the move is at an advanced stage and part of the game plan, was the untimely sack of the State Executives of the party by the National Chairman, Mr Julius Abure.
Abure had replaced the Felix Onyekwere led State exco with a Caretaker Committee led by Mr.F.B.I Onyekwulisi.
Mr Onyekwulisi, on assumption of office, vowed that the Labour party would sack Governor Hope Uzodimma from Government House, in the November 11, 2023 governorship election.
Eight governorship aspirants in the party had opposed the dissolution of the state exco.
A top LP bigwig told this newspaper that “money bags and desperate powerful forces, conscious of the political potency of the LP in the State, are scheming from various dimensions to hijack the party and impose a governorship candidate.
The former governor is also said to be up against another force, a powerful figure in the APC in the State, who is also pushing to weaken the Labour party using moles to infiltrate the parry, before the November 11 governorship election.
The influence of external forces in the LP, is said to have confused most of the governorship aspirants, especially those who have secured the N25m governorship Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
As at the time of filing this report, 13 governorship aspirants have purchased the forms, signaling a titanic governorship primary on a date yet to be announced.
A source claimed that on the promptings of the former governor, a governorship candidate of one of the political parties in the 2019 governorship election in Imo State, has secretly purchased the guber forms of the Labour party.
“It’s a top secret. Watch out what would happen before the LP guber Primary in the State. Srange faces would emerge.
“More political bigwigs will stream into the party before the Primary. And the aim to is cause chaos, which would force some of the governorship aspirants to back out of the guber Primary.
“Those who claim to own LP are day dreaming. When the chips are down, you will understand that the contest (Primary) is for men of steel and not for boys” he told INNONEWS on condition of anonymity.
