A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State, Hon Rufus Anyasodor, has said the choice of Running Mate for Governor Hope Uzodimma ,ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship election, is the sole prerogative of the Governor, and not a political contest.
Anyasodor who spoke to INNONEWS in Owerri, said it is strange that the choice of Running mate for the Governor has been subjected to a contest or political bout by some interested persons.
“I have watched carefully how the choice of the Governor’s Running Mate for the November governorship election has become a contest among some of his political allies, friends and associates particularly from Owerri zone.
“Even the media has escalated the matter to become an issue. It should not be so. It is uncalled for. This is the first time we are hearing of such. He has the final decision.
“The unwarranted scramble for the position shows some of our politicians are idle, because it is unheard of, that the Governor’s Running mate has now become a thing to be vied for. You can lobby, but not subject it to be a contest. The bulk stops on the table of the governor.
“Governor Uzodimma has the right to choose whom he deems fit to be his Running Mate for the governorship election. And he should be allowed to do so without necessarily cajoling him by those who are desperate for the position.
“He has the right to retain the current Deputy Governor or seek for someone else who would jostle with him in the governorship election in November. Those running around the governor or campaigning openly for the slot are going about it the wrong way” he said.
The Aboh Mbaise born politician said rather those eying the position should focus their energy and time to assist the Governor in his infrastructural revolution in the State.
“What the governor needs is the continued support to continue his good works, especially the infrastructural revolution he has started in the State” he said.
