Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State and Chairman, Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, says Senator Godswill Akpabio will emerge president of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio is the preferred choice of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the position of Senate President.
Uzodimma made the assertion after he met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
“You must have heard, the president in his wisdom organized a small technical committee to help coordinate the process of tomorrow’s election, which by my position as the chair of the Progressive Governors Forum, I am chairing that technical committee,” he said.
“We have done so much work to the extent that God has blessed our efforts that the majority of the senators-elect are now in sync with the position of the party.”
“Akpabio’s acceptance as of today cuts across the political party we belong to. In other political parties, there are also some same minds who are interested in the development and progress of Nigeria,” he said.
“They also understand the need to safeguard democracy as being practised in Nigeria today. And they are in sync with our preferred candidate.” he stated.
The Imo State governor, who heads a technical committee, set up by the President, to resolve the leadership dispute of the incoming 10th Senate, has made significant progress in collaboration with the outgoing Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan.
Uzodimma also assured Nigerians that Lawan will work for the emergence of the preferred candidates of the APC for the leadership positions of the 10th National Assembly.
The 10th Senate and house House of Representatives are expected to elected a new leadership on June 13, after it’s inauguration by President Bola Tinubu
