Governorship candidates in Imo State who will take part in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, have been advised to deliberate on issues affecting the people of Imo State and not resort to insults or engage in mudslinging against each other.
A watchdog group, Imo Awareness Coalition, IAC, in a statement signed by its President, Kingsley Emeghara, and made available to INNONEWS, said Imolites will not be deceived by the antics of some of the governorship candidates who rather than focus on issues affecting the people of the state, are busy casting aspersions on each other.
The group recalled that the “PDP governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had lashed out at Governor Hope Uzodimma, governorship candidate of the APC, saying the latter should be in purgatory and not in Government House, Owerri.
It noted that “Governor Uzodimma in turn, had described Senator Anyanwu as one with an infantile mindset, incapable of governing the State.
“Labour party governorship candidate, Senator Athan Achonu had at the unveiling of his Running Mate last week, said Uzodimma is a Nebuchadnezzar
“This is not the way to go. It is an infantile approach by the governorship candidates towards the forthcoming governorship election
“Their resort to exchanging insults is unacceptable, and perhaps a deliberate tactics on their part, to divert the attention of Imolites from insecurity, poverty and high cost of living plaguing the people of the State.
“Though campaigns for Imo guber is yet to start, we are disturbed over the emerging trend of insults the governorship candidates have embarked on.
“We call for restraint on their part, though we know that sometimes campaigns go overboard and candidates go extra mile to have an edge over each other.
“However, Imo governorship candidates should rather prepare to tell Imolites how they would rescue the State from the clutches of insecurity.
“We shall compel the governorship candidates to give Imolites their blueprint on education, health, youth unemployment, decaying infrastructure, human development and any of them with a workable manifesto will get our support and that of Imolites.
“Resort to insults is a reflection of either how unprepared the candidates are, or a ploy to distract Imolites from the core issues plaguing the good people of Imo State” the statement concluded.
