Transformer Thief Electrocuted To Death In Owerri

A man has been electrocuted to death in his failed attempt to steal transformer cables at Government Secondary School, Owerri.

The man, who identity is unknown, according to security officials at the School, said he scaled above the school fence at night to enable him have access to the transformer.

According to them, the transformer was donated to the school by the Old Boys Association of 1970 class.

One of the security officials, who simply gave his name as Mr.Iwu, said the incident took place on Wednesday night.

He stated that the man may have been electrocuted when power was suddenly restored at about 1am the same Wednesday night.

He said the lifeless body of the victim was discovered by the school authorities inside the transformer with barbed wire, located on the left side of the school entrance gate in the morning hours.

Mr. Chukwujindu Anyikwa, the principal of the school, who is an old Boy, said when the incident was noticed, it was reported to the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
