A worthy successor from Owerri zone will be sought and groomed to take over the reins of governance of Imo State from Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2027.
This is the position of a socio political group, Owerri Wu Oke Mba, which is contained in its 10 point Resolution, after its strategic meeting held in Owerri last Friday.
While lending support to the Imo Charter Of Equity, the group in its resolution signed by its President, Emmanuel Mere, maintained that “It will spread its tentacles to begin the search for a credible person from Owerri zone, who will succeed Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2027”
The Imo State Council of Elders had resolved that the governorship seat of Imo State will rotate among the three geo political zones in the State- Orlu, Owerri and Okigwe zones.
It further resolved that at the end of the second tenure of Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2027, Owerri and Okigwe zones will take turns to produce State governors respectively.
The Owerre Wu Oke Mba stated that “In line with the Charter of Equity, It will be the turn of Owerri zone to produce the next governor of Imo State after the expiration of Gov Uzodimma’s tenure in 2027.
“We, as a responsible group, which has been in the vanguard of an Imo State governor of Owerri zone extraction, will commence in earnest, to look for a credible person from Owerri zone to succeed Governor Uzodimma.
“We will take this project serious. Before the 2027 Imo governorship election, we shall present a competent and responsible person from Owerri zone capable of managing the affairs of the state” it stated.
The group called on worthy sons and daughters of Owerri zone both at Home and in Disapora, “desirous to contest for Imo governorship seat in 2027, to begin now to prepare quietly for the contest”
It commended the Charter of Equity, which they described as a positive development.
Part of the statement stated “Though the Charter of Equity is not new in the political lexicon of the state, its re introduction and reaffirmation is commendable.
“It is a mutual way of electing state governors for the state devoid of rancour and acrimony. And we believe it would be adhered to and honoured by all political players.
“The Charter of Equity is a major leap to redefine and redesign our political culture, geared towards enhancing the political advancement and development of the State” the statement concluded.
