Ministerial Portfolio: Major Talking Points As South East Gets Four Senior Ministers

The South East seems to have gained immensely from the allocation of senior ministerial portfolios by President Bola Tinubu.

It is a sharp departure from former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, when the South East never got any of the “juicy ministerial” positions, such as Works, Defence or Solid Minerals.

Of the five Ministers from the South East, four of them were made senior ministers by President Tinubu, unlike, the North West which having the highest ministerial slot of 10, five of the portfolio are junior ministers.

However, the North West currently produced the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Deputy Senate President and National Chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC.

From the South East, President Tinubu appointed Doris Anite, Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Dave Umahi, Minister of Works, Mrs  Uju Ohaneye, Minister of Women Affairs and Uche Nnaji, Minister of Science and Technology.

The only junior minister from the South East, is Hon (Mrs) Nkechi Onyejeaocha.

The South East, under Tinubu, also have the Chief of Naval Staff and Chairman, Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, an association of all APC State Governors.

However, the South West, the President’s region has Communications, Finance, Transportation, Marine, Power, Solid Mineral and Tourism. Those from the South West are also in charge of Customs, Police, Army, CBN, IRS, Taxation and Appropriation.

The North East, got six ministers and one junior minister. The region is where the Vice President Kashim Shettima comes from. The region secured education, health , police, interior, agriculture and foreign affairs.
