Imo Guber:Achonu Out, Ukaegbu In, As Court Sacks Abure

The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, on Thursday sacked Julius Abure as national chairman of the Labour party, LP.

The Court, in the same ruling recognized Lamidi Apapa as National Chairman of the party.

It also ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize and publish the names of all the governorship candidates produced by the Apapa led National Working Committee, NWC in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States.

The judgment, implies that Senator Athan Achonu, which the Abure NWC produced as governorship candidate of the Labour party in Imo State has been sacked.

In July, a Federal High Court, sitting in Owerri, had declared Chief Ukaegbu Ikechukwu Joseph as the authentic governorship candidate of the Labour party in Imo State.

In his judgement, Justice B.O Quadiri, after considering evidence before him, held that the Primary election that produced Ukaegbu on April 16 was valid.

The Court further held that the plaintiff, Mr Basil Ukaegbu, was never an aspirant in the nomination process as he never took part in the party’s primary election.
