Onyeneke: Imo Govt Embarks On Sensitization Against Drug Abuse, Violent Crime

The Special Adviser to the Imo State Governor on Imo Orientation Agency, Chief Dr Fidel Onyeneke, has said that the Imo State government has commenced an aggressive programme, aimed at sensitizing the masses on the negative effects of drug abuse and other violent crimes.


Chief Onyeneke stated this when he addressed the Owerri West Local Government Women August meeting held at the Council Headquarters,Umuguma.


The Governor’s aide, who was the Chairman of the event explained that town-hall meetings,seminars and workshops has been mapped out for the various communities in the three senatorial zones of the State, as a deliberate effort to send the messages to all the strata of the Society.


Onyeneke stressed that the participants would be drawn from women ,youths,students and religious organizations among others.


He regretted that the issue of drugs abuse and trafficking had ruined many people in the society, with its resultant vices of rape,kidnapping,robbery and other forms of killings.


He urged the women not to relent in condemning all forms of evil acts, stating that as mothers,they should counsel the people and redirect them towards the right attitudes.


Onyeneke commended the wife of the Governor, Barr.(Mrs) Chioma Uzodinma, for providing a conducive atmosphere for Imo women to prove their valuable worth and also contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the State.


In her speech, the Chairperson of Owerri West LGA ,Lolo Prescious Osigwe, observed that the issue of drug abuse and illicit drugs trafficking had crippled the society and caused great harm


Lolo Osigwe regretted that some women had been involved in the drug menace while the addicted ones are struggling with the situation


The Chairperson described Mrs Uzodinma as a role model who had carried out appropriate awareness on gender-based violence with a view to sanitizing the communities.


Earlier,the Sole Administrator of Owerri West Local Government,Chief Victor Osigwe had praised the women for their continued interest in ensuring that peace,unity and progress were recorded in their areas.


Chief Osigwe who enumerated the achievements of Imo government in infrastructural upliftment,urged the Women to work tirelessly for the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodinma come November 11.


The ceremony featured match past and other displays by the women drawn from all the communities of the local government area.
