Strike:Anambra NLC Officials Use Cane To Chase Workers Away From Offices

In an effort to ensure adherence to the two-day nationwide warning strike proclaimed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), representatives of the Anambra State chapter of the NLC, used canes to chase workers out of the state secretariat in Awka, on Tuesday.

The National Labour Congress (NLC) had announced in a communique that it will begin a two-day nationwide warning strike on September 5, following its National Executive Council meeting.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that some NLC officials used canes to chase workers away from their workplaces.

One of the workers who wished to remain anonymous said: “This is the first time I’ve seen a Labour union take this strike action seriously since I started working here.

“For the first time, I saw Labour officials using canes to flog workers out of their offices. If I had known they would be serious, I would not have reported to work today.

It was observed that at the Federal Secretariat opposite the State Secretariat, it was deserted as all workers failed to report to work.

Banks, schools, and courts were closed in Awka, the state capital.
