Court Sacks Imo PDP Federal Lawmaker, Ikenga Ugochinyere,Gives Fresh Order

The Imo Sate National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal has dismissed Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, who was elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

The tribunal, which sat in Nasarawa State, ruled that Ugochinyere was not validly nominated by the PDP to contest the Ideato North/South Federal Constituency election held on February 25.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days.

It also ordered INEC to conduct a supplementary poll in 55 polling units where elections did not take place on February 25.

The PDP and its candidate were excluded from the supplementary election.

The tribunal’s decision follows a petition filed by APC candidate Abazu Chika Benson, who argued that Ugochinyere was not qualified to participate in the House of Representatives contest.
