A 20-year-old student from a secondary school in Owerri met a tragic fate in a recent flood in Owerri metropolis after a heavy downpour on Thursday evening. Â
The young girl, whose identity remains unknown, was said to have attempted to cross a gutter when one of her legs slipped, causing her to plummet into a hole within the gutter. Â
The swift floodwaters swiftly carried her away and transported her into an open and underground drainage, directly across Government House, Owerri. Â
Passersby and motorists defied the rain as they witnessed the tragic scene unfold and criticized the authorities for its apparent negligence in securing the underground drainage, which had been a looming danger for years. Â
As they waited anxiously, they prayed for a glimpse of the young girl and a chance to mount a rescue operation. Â
Unfortunately, their efforts proved futile and the young girl’s whereabouts remain shrouded in uncertainty as at the time of filling this report.
