“It Is An Exercise in Futility”-Imo State Govt Dismisses Supreme Court Judgment Saga

The Imo State Government has urged the people of the state to remain calm in response to the opposition’s purported attempt to seek enforcement from the Supreme Court regarding the double nomination of Uche Nwosu for the 2019 gubernatorial election.

The government described the latest suit as a distraction and mere academic exercise, as the Supreme Court had previously affirmed Senator Uzodimma as the validly elected Governor.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba, in a statement, declared that the opposition’s latest effort is an exercise in futility because the previous ruling on Nwosu was related to nomination and not his candidacy in the election.

He also pointed out that matters related to pre-election issues are time-barred, making the suit out of time.

Emelumba suggested that the opposition’s suit is an attempt to cause confusion and distract the electorate due to their anticipation of defeat in the upcoming governorship elections.

He criticized the opposition’s approach to the Supreme Court, considering they had previously criticized the court’s ruling in favour of Senator Uzodimma.

The government accused the opposition of abusing court processes and wasting taxpayers’ money and called on supporters of Governor Uzodimma and the Imo electorate to ignore these actions and vote for the APC in the November 11 election.
