The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has secured a second seat in the Imo State House of Assembly, as Appeal Court, sitting in Lagos, has sacked the member representing Aboh Mbaise State Constituency, Hon Eddy Obinna of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Appeal Court, after extensive legal deliberations, affirmed Ezinwa Princewill Ugochukwu Amuchie of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner of the Aboh-Mbaise House of Assembly seat.
Amuchie had challenged the victory of Hon Obinna in the March 18, 2023 State Assembly election at the Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld his petition and sacked Hon Obinna.
Obinna proceeded to the Appeal Court, which upheld the earlier decision of the Tribunal.
The Appeal Court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to retract the Certificate of Return previously issued to Eddy Obinna and promptly issue it toAmuchie.
Amuchie is expected to be inaugurated into the 10th House of Assembly during their next session scheduled for November 30th, 2023.
Based on the ruling of the Appeal Court, the APC now has 24 seats, PDP, 2 seats, and the Accord Party, I seat in the State Assembly.
