AFCON 2023: Confusion as Super Eagles’ Provisional List Is Kept Secret

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set a deadline of December 14 for all participating countries in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to submit their provisional squads.

Each team is required to provide a list of up to 55 players, with the final squad comprising 27 players—an increase from the previous 23.

While most countries have already submitted their lists to CAF, Nigeria’s roster has not been made public, though it is confirmed that coach Jose Peseiro has submitted it.

Solace Chukwu, Chief Editor for Pulse Sports, notes, “I do know it has been submitted to CAF, so I can only assume that, in keeping with the norm, the announcement will be delayed as long as possible.”

Rumors suggest the inclusion of new faces like Jerome Akor and Stanley Nwabali.

The final squad submission deadline is January 3, 2023, 10 days before the tournament’s opening match.

The announcement of the Super Eagles’ list is eagerly awaited, with speculation about potential inclusions from clubs like Montpellier, Chippa United, Antwerp, Ajax, and Esperance.
