Onyeneke Urges Media Practitioners To Promote Peace In Nigeria

Media Practitioners have been urged to place more priority on issues that will unite the masses and further enhance peace in Nigerian Communities.


The Special Adviser to Imo Governor on Imo Orientation Agency,Chief Dr Fidel Onyeneke made the appeal in Owerri while receiving a Meritorious Service Award conferred on him by the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ),Imo State Council.


Chief Onyeneke said that Media work entailed high level of professionalism,Truthfulness and Patriotism.


He urged them to engage in developmental Journalism while serving as a veritable link between the Government and the governed.


Chief Onyeneke observed with regrets, that Imposter and Quarks had tarnished the credibility and image of the Media profession,stressing that drastic measures should be applied to sanitise the system.


The Special Adviser commended the gianstrides recorded by the Nwanguma -led NUJ in Imo state,and called for regular Training of the professional in order to keep them abreast with the current trends in Information handling.


Presenting the Award,the Imo State Commissioner of Information and Strategy,Chief Declan Emelumba,thanked NUJ for appreciating the immense contributions of Chief Fidel Onyeneke towards the growth of the Journalism Profession.


Chief Emelumba reiterated the resolve of the State government to partner with NUJ as a deliberate effort to further boost the public Education and Enlightenment of the Imo citizenry.


Earlier,the State Chairman of NUJ,Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma had described the Award as well deserved,adding the NUJ would continue to recognize the contributions of their members in terms of excellent services.


Recall that Chief Fidel Onyeneke ,a veteran Journalist,was Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) ,Imo State Council for two tenures before he became the National Trustee of the Union.
