The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for issuing threats to traditional rulers who confer chieftaincy titles without seeking clearance from the state government.
In a statement signed by ADC National Vice Chairman, South East, Hon. Chilos Godsent, Soludo’s actions were labeled as tyrannical and a potential catalyst for anarchy in the state.
The ADC emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions as custodians of culture and traditions within their communities.
They asserted that these institutions operate independently of political affiliations and possess the right to uphold their values and norms.
The ADC highlighted the communities’ autonomy in self-determination, allowing them to choose individuals for chieftaincy titles based on their cultural traditions.
The party suggested that Soludo’s actions stem from apprehension about the upcoming off-cycle governorship election in 2025.
The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of Anambra State residents, regardless of intimidation or harassment.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is determined to safeguard the rights of the people of Anambra State, regardless of the circumstances. The government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo should refrain from engaging in unwarranted intimidation and harassment of Anambra’s electorate under the guise of a second-term project for a regime that has brought hardship to the state,” concluded the statement.
