In the aftermath of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s dissolution of the State Executive Council, the Owerri Zone Awareness Coalition (OZAC) has called on the governor to disregard political hangers-on and focus on appointing seasoned technocrats to his impending cabinet.

Following his second-term inauguration, Governor Uzodimma swiftly dissolved the State Executive Council, comprising Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants, with a promise to reconstitute the cabinet promptly.

OZAC, through a statement signed by its President General, Emmanuel Okwu, made available to INNONEWS, stressed the need for Imo State’s rapid development and urged the governor to select technocrats for key positions in his administration.

“The Governor’s vision for a prosperous Imo State can only be realized by seasoned technocrats and experts who have excelled in their various fields.

“The wheel of development in Imo State can only be propelled by a team of competent individuals committed to contributing their expertise to the state’s advancement.

“We strongly suggest that political hangers-on, who constituted a significant portion of Senator Hope Uzodimma’s Shared Prosperity administration in the first term , should yield space to non-career politicians, allowing governance in Imo State to benefit from individuals with proven expertise.

“We advocate for a balanced approach to appointments, recommending fewer politicians and a greater emphasis on experts.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma should take a cue from President Bola Tinubu, who appointed technocrats to sensitive federal ministries like Interior and Trade and Investment.

“There should be a clear yardstick for appointments, with less consideration for political factors as the primary basis for selection.”part of the statement read.

OZAC noted that it’s call reflects a broader sentiment for a more technocratic approach in governance in Imo State.,

“We strongly align with the belief that expertise and competence should guide appointments for optimal development in Imo State”the statement concluded.
