The South East chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has once again voiced its grievances, demanding immediate action regarding the appointment of the National Secretary.
During a crucial meeting held in Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah, alongside PDP National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Ali Odefa and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, led party leaders in condemning the delay in confirming S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Mbah underscored the historical significance of the South East to the PDP’s success, emphasizing the need for respect and adherence to its decisions.
In his remarks , Senator Wabara lamented the perceived neglect of the Igbo within the party, urging attendees to unite in seeking equitable treatment.
Delivering the official communique of the party in the region , Chief Odefa reiterated previous resolutions demanding Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s resignation and Udeh-Okoye’s appointment as his replacement.
Highlighting constitutional provisions of the party, Odefa underscored the obligation for elected party officials vying for elective office to resign, citing Section 47(5) of the PDP Constitution.
He further detailed Anyanwu’s participation in the gubernatorial primary of the PDP in Imo State , emphasizing his automatic resignation based on party guidelines and legal rulings affirming Udeh-Okoye’s legitimacy.
Despite conflicting court judgments, the South East PDP remained steadfast in its support for Udeh-Okoye, urging national party organs to recognize his appointment.
In a unified call to action, party leaders implored the PDP National Working Committee, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and National Assembly Caucus to uphold Udeh-Okoye’s nomination in alignment with party principles.
Prominent figures of the party who attended the meeting included former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, and Emeka Ihedioha, former PDP National Chairman Okwesilieze Nwodo, Senate Minority Whip Senator Osita Ngwu, and key members of the Board of Trustees.
