Former Special Adviser to Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Imo Orientation Agency,Chief Dr. Fidel Onyeneke, has called for deliberate action to further improve the living conditions of persons with disabilities.
Chief Onyeneke, who made the call while speaking at a media parley in Owerri on Tuesday,said persons with disabilities needed enhanced welfare facilities in order to give them a sense of belonging.
He observed that most of the people were faced with hardship in the country due to poor attention and unfavorable life conditions.
He regretted that the federal and state governments had not fully implemented the existing laws that elevated the status of persons with disabilities in society and suggested the immediate domestication of such laws in all the states of the Federation.
The former Special Adviser urged religious and non-governmental organizations to show more interest in the well-being of such persons by making adequate budgetary allocations to assist them.
Chief Onyeneke also suggested their mainstreaming in the act of governance at all levels in order to give them a sense of belonging.
The media relations consultant observed that the harsh economic situation in the country today demanded that people be their brothers keepers and exhibit the spirit of giving.
Chief Onyeneke expressed optimism that such persons have immense contributions to make towards the socio-economic growth of the nation,if appropriately carried along in the scheme of things.
Chief Onyeneke appealed for more opportunities for the less privileged and down-trodden in the areas of health, education, and employment to enable them to utilize their potential for the benefit of humanity.
