Our attention has been drawn to the latest publication of the so called Okigwe Youth Mandate acting on behalf of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, in which the phantom group dragged the name of yet another illustrious son of Orlu zone, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, into his perfidious attack on the good people of zone.
In the publication, evidently in response to an early one by us, which was in turn in response to one of its own, the Okigwe group claimed that Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, former Chief of staff to governor of Imo state and former Commissioner for Lands in the state, has “Governorship Bid In 2027”; and for which he has recruited the support and services of certain individuals and groups, including the Orlu Progressives Forum. This was how a section of the media captured it: “IMO CHARTER OF EQUITY: YOUTHS BACK EX-INEC CHAIRMAN, IWU,ACCUSE SOKOM,OTHERS OF PLOTTING FOR UCHE NWOSU’S 2027 GOVERNORSHIP BID”.
We have since gotten in touch with Ugwumba Nwosu and, to say the least, he is completely at a loss as to why Professor Iwu, a fellow he has tremendous respect for, would drag his name into a matter he knows nothing about. Ugwumba Nwosu assured us that he has not told anybody that he will be running for elections in 2027; neither does he know of any individual or group working on his behalf in that regard, as was insinuated in the publication under reference.
We wish to, therefore, seize this opportunity to appeal to Professor Maurice Iwu, and his group to leave Ugwumba Nwosu out of whatever issues he has with any individual or group in Orlu zone.
In their last but one publication, Iwu and his group dragged His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, into their problem and which necessitated our last publication wherein we reprimanded them but little did we know that Iwu had targeted another big son of Orlu in continuation of his shameful and perfidious acts against the good people of the zone.
As for the issues that led to the ongoing quarrel between Professor Iwu and a section of the people of the Orlu zone, including this forum, it is well known in the state and even beyond that Ugwumba Nwosu is not given to a market place approach to issues. He does not patronize touts and phantom groups like Iwu and would always come out clean and direct on any issue concerning the state and Nigeria at large.
We have said it over and over again that Professor Iwu goes about sowing seeds of discord in the state. To claim that Chief Uche Nwosu has already kicked off a campaign for the 2027 governorship election can be for no other reason than to create bad blood between him, Nwosu as a person, and indeed the entire people of Orlu zone on one hand and those of Owerri and Okigwe on the other and who, rightly or wrongly, are laying claims to the office of the Imo state governor come 2028. Can we be better vindicated?
However, we want to once again warn Iwu to desist from dragging out Orlu sons.He started with Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, then to Chief Rex Anunuobi and later Governor Hope Uzodimma. Now, it is Chief Uche Nwosu. The whole world has seen that rather than tender an apology for denigrating just one fellow, Iwu is spreading his net to drag in more innocent souls for no other reason than that the people of Orlu demand the withdrawal of petitions against the reelection of Governor Uzodimma by candidates of Okigwe and Owerri extractions; in order to create a more amicable atmosphere for the realisation of the noble objectives of the Charter of Equity. We want to assure Iwu that his declared war against our people in Orlu can only be to his detriment and those he is working for.
