In his determination to fight food insecurity in his constituency as well as empower the youths for self sustenance, the Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North/ South of Abia State in the National Assembly,Hon Ginger Onwusibe,has enlisted the assistance of the Agricbusiness Incubation Centre, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike for the realisation of that goal.
Hon Onwusibe disclosed this at the weekend in his country home when he received the Director of Agricbusines Incubation Centre, MOUAU, Dr Philips Nto who paid him a working visit to explain the operations of the centre.
The federal lawmaker expressed joy that the mission of the Centre tallied with his vision of ending hunger and deprivation through agriculture and Agricbusiness.
According to him, youths in particular needed to be taught the rudiments of farming not only to sustain themselves but make commercial capital of it.
Hon Onwusibe said the establishment of the Agricbusiness Incubation Centre at MOUAU was an answered prayer to the yearnings of his people who are seeking knowledge of modern ways of farming to earn a living.
According to him, after being briefed on the nature of services of the Centre, he would mobilize his constituents, ward by ward to receive the necessary training.
He commended the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe for initiating the programme which he noted would be of great assistance to Abia citizens.
He also commended the Director, Dr Philips Nto, for carrying the gospel of the Centre to the grassroots through his interactions with the representatives of the people.
Hon Onwusibe expressed gratitude to the Centre for the visit and commended both the University and the Centre for their efforts aimed at eradicating poverty through improved farming methods and utilising the value chain in the Agricultural sector.
Earlier, Dr Philips Nto had informed the lawmaker that he could leverage on the various packages offered by the Centre to improve the lives of his constituents.
According to him,owing to lack of information and adequate training, many Nigerian farmers are unable to maximize yields and therefore discouraged from engaging in small and large scale farming.
The director disclosed that agriculture is a lucrative enterprise when the right methods are employed, and announced that the MOUAU Agricbusiness Incubation Centre came into existence to help farmers in that regard.
He told the lawmaker to partner with the Centre for the training of his constituents on modern ways of Agriculture, promising that the Centre would move from ward to ward to accomplish that objective for Hon Onwusibe.
He praised Hon Onwusibe for receiving the team at a short notice, saying that his antecedents and legacies as a local government chairman and state lawmaker had made him very popular in Abia State
