Imo PDP: Anyanwu’s Confidence Vote Unsettles Ihedioha’s Camp

In a dramatic turn of events, the 2023 Governorship Candidate of PDP in Imo, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, may have successfully sidelined the immediate former Governor of Imo State, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, from the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This development is said to have unsettled Ihedioha’s camp.

Last month, members of his political structure, Rebuild Imo Organization, called on the former governor to quit the PDP and cross over to the Labour Party, LP.

The rift between Ihedioha and Anyanwu, which has been simmering for years, came to a head during the buildup to the 2023 Imo governorship election.

Ihedioha’s decision to drop out of the party’s 2023 Guber primary paved the way for Anyanwu as the sole candidate for the PDP.

Despite speculations about Ihedioha’s potential move to another party, the recent vote of confidence passed by the National Executive Council (NEC) on Anyanwu and the National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, may have sealed his fate within the PDP.

The NEC’s unanimous resolution, which applauded the leadership of Amb Iliya Damagun and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has not only affirmed their positions but also calmed tensions within the party.

Anyanwu’s strategic maneuvering and support from the NEC have solidified his standing, leaving Ihedioha with little choice in the PDP, but to explore alternative political avenues to pursue his governorship ambition.

Ihedioha is expected to announce his next political move after the memorial of his late mother, Dame Dorathy expected to hold on April 24.
